We're
Making a Documentary Film
Opportunity Bound - Stories of Harvey Girls

We are so excited and pleased
to announce our collaboration with Gladys
Films on a new documentary film titled,
Opportunity Bound - Stories of the Harvey
Girls. This feature length documentary,
which recently received sponsorship from
Orange County's PBS affiliate KOCE, interested
in airing it for their viewers.
Following the PBS broadcast,
Opportunity Bound will continue to be screened
at railroad museums, educational institutions,
libraries, senior communities and theatres
across the country.
We are currently seeking sponsors
and funding for this important historical
documentary, which tells the unique story
of the 150,000 young women who against the
social norms of the day, left home in the
early 1920's, 30's and 40's to work as waitresses
in "Harvey House Restaurants" along the
Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad.
It is of vital importance
that this story is told now, as there are
only a few remaining former Harvey Girls
still alive today. This may be the last
opportunity to capture their unique view
of the events of the last century and their
wisdom for the new millennium.
If you would like to help
support the film, take an active part or
have information that you would like to
share, please email us at info@womeninrailroading.com
or call 818-346-4842.
